Oil on Canvas

This is one in a small series of 3 paintings in which I explore the way we ‘collect’ people over the course of our lives and the complex emotions tied to these relationships. Each painting features a different individual enclosed in a bell jar, symbolising the way we accumulate people in our lives.

The bell jars represent the delicate balance between holding on and letting go. Some individuals remain with us for a lifetime, their presence a cherished constant, while others pass through quickly, leaving behind fleeting memories. The paintings also reflect on those we should have released long ago, but find ourselves clinging to.

Through these bell jars, I invite viewers to reflect on their own experiences with relationships—those we wish we could preserve forever, those that have been taken from us too soon, and those we should have let go of earlier. This series prompts introspection about how we navigate the people we collect and the impact they have on our lives.
